When the ACA (affordable care act) was created it was hoped that it would solve the healthcare crisis in the US. As we have seen since its implementation, the ACA has kept in tact the for-profit business model for healthcare delivery. In 2017 states can receive a waiver to opt out of the ACA. States like Colorado and New York will vote on a state single-payer health care system.
Regardless, the Switzerland healthcare system has been hailed as a possible solution for the US because it has removed the for-profit companies and relies strictly on non-profit organizations. Furthermore, the Swiss tie healthcare to individual plans and not employment. We hope to explore the possibility of an individual state healthcare system that mirrors Switzerland.
