As of January 28, 2015 at least 225 cities and counties prohibit employment discrimination on the basis of gender identity in employment ordinances that governed all public and private employers in those jurisdictions. This list does not include those cities and counties that prohibit discrimination on the basis of gender identity for city and county employees — such policies do not affect private employers in those jurisdictions.

Solutions:

  • Pass a Non Discrimination law with protections for everyone
  • Pass a Non Discrimination law without public accommodation for LGBT, wait 2 years and then approach the subject. Similar to other US cities and states.
  • Pass a Non Discrimination law similar to the one in Utah. LGBT would have protections under employers and housing but religious organizations and charities would be exempt, and there is no public accommodation protection
  • Do nothing at the state level, let Texas cities create their own non-discrimination ordinance
  • Prohibit conversion therapy for minors (similar to 8 US cities)
  • Pass an ordinance or state law prohibiting discrimination based on pregnancy
